Sharon starts her own blog.

This month we bring you a wonderful new item from Sharon. She has been wanting to start her own blog and this month she has finally sat down and typed up her first entry.

Blog post #1

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my first blog. This will be a biweekly update of what is going on in my life. I will be letting you know where I am and what I am doing along with what I am working on. I will be including pictures and much more of my new quilts to this blog.

To start I have decided to take a sabbatical from competing with my quilts. Now this doesn't’t mean that I am not making quilts anymore. I will be working on as many new quilts as time will allow.

The reason I have made this choice is that for about 1 ½ years, that small voice inside me has been telling me to take a break. My intuition is the most important part of my creative self so I could no longer ignore what it had to say. At first I thought it was telling me to quit quilting. I just panicked; I didn't want to stop quilting. Then when I got a bit more grounded, I realized that it was just a break I needed. It has been a wonderful 5 years and I don’t want to change a thing.

I am working on a new quilt (in fact just finishing it). I won’t finish this quilt until I feel inspired to. It may just not get the last few touches for a year or more. I am having more fun with my designing and my teaching then ever before.

The creative flow is such a wonderful thing. I so enjoy it when I am there. My last quilt (I will call it Mystique) was a joy as I worked on it; I was on the last 40 hours of its completion when that small voice became a raging witch. I had no choice but stop and work on some thing else. Of all things I wanted to work on, it was a Baltimore Album quilt; I am now flowing on a downstream path and toughly enjoying the process. Here are some pictures:

I am working on some new classes for my students. One of the new techniques is Sew as you go Piec-lique. It is very similar to just Piec-lique but the pieces are sewn together as you go, hence the name. I taught a class in Seattle two weeks ago and my students just loved it. They actually understood the technique so much more then in the past. I love up dating my techniques; it does cause a lot more work for Neil, my son and of course my husband Gene. If I am being really honest I really don’t worry about how much more work they have to do. I just care about how the classes get better and better. I know that they forget the extra work when a student sends us a picture of a project that just was wonderful.

I am also working with a new charity:
I will be letting you all know what that is when I get everything ready. It is something that we all can help with. The project is small and only uses our scraps. It helps women who are really in need in third world countries. I am so excited.

One more thing my daughter Cristy is expecting another baby. I think that it is a girl, but a boy would be nice too. The due date is December 31st; I think it will be here around Christmas. Molly is doing fine and so is Aaron. Gene’s grand kids are all growing and are healthy

Cristy and I will also be at the Long Beach show so come by and see us.

Sharon
